James S. Moser, Jr.

J.J. Moser is an associate in Dechert’s financial restructuring team. He represents Official Committees of Unsecured Creditors, Ad Hoc Groups, and individual parties in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Mr. Moser focuses his practice on analyses of first-day filings in Chapter 11 cases and developing strategies to maximize clients’ recoveries in those cases. Mr. Moser has also worked on out-of-court restructuring deals, both for U.S.-based and international clients.

Mr. Moser has also provided pro bono representation in human trafficking, housing, and immigration matters, with a particular emphasis on clients requiring Spanish language legal services.

During his tenure at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Moser analyzed human rights petitions in English, Spanish, and French to determine their admissibility. He also evaluated petitions from States, assessing whether the relevant human rights body should deny human rights applications based on their merits or procedural deficiencies.

Before joining Dechert, Mr. Moser served as a legal intern at another international law firm in their Chilean office. His responsibilities included conducting legal research in Spanish and English, drafting a memorandum on aspects of class action litigation in U.S. law, and preparing an office-wide presentation on the same topic in Spanish.

At the International Transactions Clinic, University of Michigan Law School, Mr. Moser assisted international clients with the incorporation of 501(c)(3) organizations in the United States. He also reviewed foreign non-profit and for-profit organizational practices for compliance with U.S. law.

In the Civil-Criminal Litigation Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School, Mr. Moser advocated on behalf of clients who were defendants in eviction proceedings. He argued in court on behalf of landlord-tenant case clients, conducted discovery and engaged in mediations with those clients.
